Mahar's Vintage Guitars is my refinement of over 13 years in music instrument and equipment retail. In 1995 I started Sound Source in Chico, CA with my friend and former partner Geoff Wintrup and built it with he and later my wife Danielle into the largest music products retail seller from Sacramento, CA to Eugene, Oregon.
Today I have honed my focus almost exclusively to vintage and used instruments, a business that is based on my obsession with guitars and cool stuff in general. While keeping it simple brings different challenges I am diligently working towards my goal of providing only the highest quality, most distinct inventory for you.
I have another goal... I want to be the most honest, simplest, easiest business to deal with not only for my customers, but also for myself and for my family. While this is the ideal I know I need to succeed, I just don't think I can lose by applying that principle to the coolest thing in the universe - old guitars. While noone is perfect, and this industry is sometimes not, I will do everything in my power to make your internet guitar-buying experience as positive as it can be with honest descriptions and flexible return policies (see Return Policy).

While I am mainly focused on Gibson, Fender, Paul Reed Smith and Martin instruments I also buy, sell and trade items from Ibanez, Gretsch, Santa Cruz, Marshall, Guild, Alvarez, Epiphone, Vox, Silvertone, Danelectro, Magnatone, Univox and on and on. Towards the end of September I will be regrettably downsizing the number of pictures I post of each item. While it's been part of my philosophy to post up to 20 pictures of each piece of my merchandise it has simply become too expensive to host all these large, high quality images with my website administration. I am being charged up to $600 per month for the hosting of these images, and this is my effort to keep my overhead low so I can continue to offer fair pricing on my guitars.
